The UPSC CSE consists of three stages

Preliminary Examination – Objective-type papers to screen candidates for the mains. Mains Examination – Descriptive papers, including an optional subject, to assess in-depth knowledge. Personality Test (Interview) – The final stage to evaluate the candidate’s personality, decision-making skills, and suitability for administrative roles

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university, and the age limit is generally 21 to 32 years (with relaxations for reserved categories).

SUPSC (State UPSC or State PSCs)

Each Indian state has its own State Public Service Commission (State PSC), which conducts exams for state-level administrative positions. These exams are modeled after the UPSC but focus on local governance, state laws, and regional administration.

Exam Conducting Bodies

Some well-known State PSCs include: UPPSC (Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission) BPSC (Bihar Public Service Commission) MPPSC (Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission) RPSC (Rajasthan Public Service Commission)

RO-ARO

Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) are administrative positions in state government departments, primarily in state secretariats and public service commissions. These roles involve file management, document verification, legal compliance, and office administration. The exams for RO/ARO are conducted by State Public Service Commissions, such as UPPSC for Uttar Pradesh. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, with additional qualifications like typing skills required for some positions. The selection process includes Preliminary, Mains, and sometimes a Typing Test. RO/ARO officers ensure smooth functioning of government offices by handling official correspondence and maintaining records.
