The Services Selection Board (SSB) interview is a crucial part of the selection process for officer-level positions in the Indian Armed Forces. It is conducted for candidates who qualify through NDA, CDS, AFCAT, and direct entries like TES, TGC, and SSC Tech. The SSB process lasts for five days and assesses candidates on intelligence, personality, leadership, and psychological traits. The eligibility criteria for SSB depend on the entry scheme. Candidates must have passed 10+2 for NDA, a bachelor’s degree for CDS, or a relevant engineering degree for technical entries. The age limit varies based on the type of entry, typically ranging from 16.5 to 24 years. Candidates must also meet the prescribed physical and medical fitness standards set by the Indian Armed Forces. The SSB interview consists of five stages: Screening, Psychological Tests, Group Testing, Personal Interview, and Conference. The Screening Test on Day 1 includes the Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) test and Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT). Candidates who clear this stage proceed to further testing. The Psychological Tests on Day 2 include Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT), and Self-Description Test (SDT). These assess the candidate’s subconscious thinking and personality traits. The Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks, conducted on Days 3 and 4, involve group discussions, command tasks, group planning exercises, and physical outdoor activities to evaluate leadership and teamwork. The Personal Interview assesses communication skills, decision-making, and general awareness. On the final day, candidates face the Conference, where officers decide their recommendation based on overall performance. Selected candidates undergo medical tests before the final merit list is prepared. SSB preparation requires a strong grasp of current affairs, logical reasoning, and military awareness. Good physical fitness, clear communication, confidence, and leadership qualities are essential. Candidates should practice mock interviews, psychological tests, and group tasks. Successful candidates are trained at academies like IMA, NDA, AFA, and INA before commissioning as officers.
